Jörgen van Rijen is a Dutch trombone player. A much sought after soloist in the Netherlands and abroad. He also plays for het Koninklijk Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Working with many ensembles such as het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, Czech Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Philharmonic en Nagoya Philharmonic.
Jörgen studied at the Rotterdams Conservatorium and took lessons from George Wiegel. Where he finished his studies summa cum laude. Afterwards he followed diverse lessons and masterclasses from Christian Lindberg, Joseph Alessi, bassoonist Brian Pollard and cellist Anner Bijlsma.
In 2006 Jörgen received the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. He mainly focuses on sharing his knowledge and outcome of his experiments with his instrument with the main public. He really knows how to use his instrument in different ways. Many pieces were specificly written for Jörgen, for example a trombone concert from Theo Verbey commissioned by het Koninklijk Concertgebouw and pieces from Martijn Padding, Jacob ter Veldhuis, Kalevi Aho, Jan van Vlijmen, Florian Magnus Maier. Besides all that Jörgen also teaches at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and is International Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy in London. We hope you will enjoy his session!
