Karel Boehlee (59) is a jazz pianist and composer from The Netherlands. He started playing jazz when he was 6 years old. By the age of 20 Karel was an often requested pianist for different kind of styles and even though Karel was self-thought he got in at the Conservatory.

His first recordings were an instant success, especially in Japan, where he performed a lot with his European Jazz Trio (later Karel Boehlee Trio) since 1989. From there on he became one of the greatest pianists of the Netherlands that led to collaborations with musicians as Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine, Jesse van Ruller, Martijn van Iterson, Peter Erskine, Phil Woods, Benjamin Herman and Gino Vanelli.

He plays regularly with Dutch artists such as Toon Roos, Fay Claasen and Trijntje Oosterhuis. He can be heard on the last two CDs of Toots Thielemans.

His recognizable style and his compositions are getting more recognition in Japan and Korea, where he performs more and more as a soloist.  On top of that Karel also teaches at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
