Interview with Randell Heye by Dutch Jazz duo Rolf Delfos & Bart Wirtz.
Randell Heye is a well known Dutch trumpet player and musician. He plays the trumpet since he was 5 years old. Taught by his father Alfons Heye who also played the trumpet for the famous Surinam band Sabakoe.
When Randell was 6 years old he went to the SKVR Rotterdam. Here he studied with Ronald Harmsen and Henk de Ligt. After a study of Tourism he decided to go to the Conservatory of Amsterdam when he was 21 years old. In 2007 Randell joins Kyteman where he meets the band members of K.O. Brass.
Because of his Surinam roots Randell combines different styles together. His Caribbean trumpet sound mixed with his modern play makes Randell one of the leading trumpet players in The Netherlands at this moment.
Randell has played with numerous bands and acts like The Kyteman Orchestra, Edsilia Rombley, The Musical Dreamgirls, Typhoon, Frank McComb and the New Cool Collective Big Band as a few to name. Right now he is playing with Typhoon across Holland and Belgium and also the brass quintet K.O.Brass which is a fusion of classical and pop style.
