Feathers

Nana M. Rose

London-based, Dutch-born singer songwriter Nana M. Rose writes alternative piano-lead pop ballads inspired by both legendary and contemporary songwriters (Joni Mitchell, Lana del Rey, Adele). Combined with Nana’s classical background, Nana delivers a vintage pop-sound carried by her ‘old-soul vocals that feel at once nostalgic and revolutionary’ (Wonderland Magazine). Her last EP ‘Feathers’ also got support from tastemakers like Mahogany, and landed Nana her first support tour with The Veils all throughout Europe in 2023 (IMPRINT: ‘an angelic-like performance). Known for the raw, heart-wrenching emotion she puts into her liveshows and versatility of her voice (Sharon van Etten: “This brought tears to my eyes’’), she’s quickly building a name for herself across the London live music scene and sold out her first London headline show at The Old Church Stoke Newington in January 2024, accompanied by her band.

Nana’s second EP ‘Feathers’ came out on 6 October 2023 and welcomes us to a ‘cinematic world reminiscent of bygone times in Hollywood’ (Dansende Beren, BE). According to Wonderland Magazine ‘her powerful, timeless, old-soul vocals feel at once nostalgic and revolutionary, as she belts poetic lyrics with the utmost control and emotion’. The title track Feathers is frequently played by Amazing Radio UK & USA, and the first two singles, Only You and Garden have received radio play by Leo Blokhuis at Radio 2 (NL) and Islington Radio (UK). Nana recorded ‘Feathers’ with London based musicians like Julia Lamb (guitar, Tom Grennan), violinist Kristin McFadden (Prima Queen) and go-to producer Louis Souyave (Salt Ashes, Maddox Jones).

Following the release of her debut EP ‘Morning Drops & Lemon Seeds’ (2021) and three sold out headline shows at Amsterdam’s popular venue ‘Bitterzoet’, she was soon dubbed “a stand out star in the night sky of music” by music press heavyweight 1883 Magazine, and received widespread acclaim from other tastemakers, including Clash Magazine, Earmilk, Rolling Stone India. Nana’s single ‘‘4 AM’ won 2021’s “Rotterdam Track of the Year” award, while the EP received major Dutch national radio support. Nana performed live on ‘3voor12 Radio’ (3FM), Giel Beelen’s eponymous show (Radio 2), Carolien Borger’s ‘Het Muziekcafé’ (Radio 2) and Kevin van Arnhem show ‘Parels van de Nacht’ (3FM). In 2021/2022 she showcased her live set all over the Netherlands as part of the 2021 Popronde artist selection. In 2022 Nana moved to London to focus on music full time.

Nana’s delicate, poetic lyrics explore the meaning of human connection in an ultra-competitive, individualistic world. As a child, Nana started playing the violin, the classical influence of which is still reflected in her carefully crafted melodies and arrangements. Nana discovered her voice when she was 15 and has shared her incredible voice with audiences ever since. Aged 18 she spent 4 months in London, exploring the local music scene and gaining live experience. Through various open mics she discovered her ability to convey emotion to her audience. Back in Rotterdam, she went on to study pop vocals and songwriting at the renowned Codarts Conservatory and was awarded SENA’s public award Grote Prijs van Rotterdam (Big Prize of Rotterdam) 2016. After graduating in 2018 Nana toured the UK, New York and The Netherlands.

Nana is currently working on new recordings which will see the light of day in 2024.
